Terms of Use
These Terms of Use govern your use of Mote, an iPhone note app provided by Ivan Borisov (“we,” “us,” or “our”). By using Mote, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
1. What Mote does
Mote lets you write and manage short notes, organize them by context, move notes to History, schedule notes, and optionally show a note through an iOS Live Activity. Mote does not require an account and does not provide its own note synchronization or export service. Notes are stored in the app’s local storage; iOS may include that storage in a device backup. See our Privacy Policy.
You are responsible for the content you enter and for maintaining a suitable device backup if you need to preserve it. Deleting the app or losing access to the device may make notes unavailable. Do not rely on Mote as the only copy of information you cannot afford to lose.
2. Free and Plus features
Free use includes one active context, a current note, History, sharing through the iOS share sheet, and manual Live Activity controls. Mote Plus adds extra contexts, scheduled notes, and Private Mode. Feature availability may depend on the iOS version, device capabilities, permissions, and an active Plus entitlement. We may improve or change features, but will respect purchases and applicable consumer law.
Private Mode uses device authentication to hide the app interface while locked. It is not a separate encrypted vault. Live Activities can display note text on the Lock Screen, Dynamic Island, and other iOS surfaces. Enable them only for content you are comfortable showing there.
3. Purchases and subscriptions
Mote offers monthly and yearly auto-renewing Plus subscriptions and a one-time Lifetime Plus purchase through Apple’s in-app purchase system. The purchase screen shows the current localized price and billing period before you buy. Apple processes payment. We use RevenueCat to check purchase status and provide Plus access.
A subscription renews automatically unless you cancel it through your Apple Account before renewal, subject to Apple’s applicable rules. Apple may charge your account shortly before renewal. You can manage or cancel in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Cancelling normally preserves access until the paid period ends. Deleting Mote does not cancel a subscription. Use “Restore Purchases” in Mote Plus to retrieve eligible purchases.
“Lifetime” is a single payment for continued Plus access in Mote for as long as the app remains available and supported; it is not a recurring subscription or a promise that the app will operate for the purchaser’s lifetime. If the app is discontinued, applicable law and Apple’s refund processes still apply. Prices, taxes, refunds, and payment disputes are handled under Apple’s applicable purchase terms. Statutory consumer rights are unaffected.
If a Plus subscription expires or a purchase is revoked, notes are not intentionally deleted solely because access changes. Free limits then apply: extra contexts are not accessible until Plus is restored, scheduled activations pause, and enabling Private Mode again requires Plus. An already enabled Private Mode lock remains in place until you unlock and turn it off.
4. Scheduling and system features
Scheduled notes, local notifications, and Live Activities depend on iOS permissions and system behavior. A notification may arrive while Mote is closed, but the app’s local note database may update only when Mote runs again. On supported iOS versions, an opted-in scheduled Live Activity may start while the app is closed. Timing and display are not guaranteed, and iOS can limit or suppress alerts or activities. Do not use Mote as a sole reminder for urgent, medical, safety-critical, or other time-critical tasks.
When you choose Share, the selected content goes to the app or person you select through iOS. We are not responsible for how that recipient handles it.
5. Acceptable use and intellectual property
You may use Mote for lawful personal or business notes. You keep your rights in the content you write. You may not interfere with the app or misuse it in ways that violate law or the rights of others. The app, its design, and its software remain ours or our licensors’ property.
Apple’s Standard End User License Agreement also applies to the app license unless a different license is made available through Apple. These Terms address Mote’s features and Plus offering; they do not remove rights given by that license or mandatory law.
6. Availability and liability
We aim to keep Mote working, but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, exact reminder timing, or preservation of data after device failure or deletion. To the extent permitted by applicable law, Mote is provided without additional warranties and our liability is limited to losses that the law allows us to limit. Nothing in these Terms limits rights or remedies that cannot legally be excluded, including applicable consumer protection rights.
7. Changes and contact
We may update these Terms when Mote changes or legal requirements change. The current version and its date will remain available at this URL. Material changes will be communicated in the app or by another reasonable method before they take effect where required by law. Questions about these Terms can be sent to johanintheuk@gmail.com.
