Privacy Policy

Effective September 26, 2026 · Last updated September 26, 2026

This policy explains how Mote handles information when you use the iPhone app or visit these legal pages. Ivan Borisov (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates Mote. For privacy requests, email johanintheuk@gmail.com.

1. Notes and settings on your device

Mote stores your note text, contexts, scheduled times, and app settings in its local app storage. We do not run an account system or a server that receives or syncs your note text. Mote does not send note text to RevenueCat. Notes are available to us only if you choose to include them in an email or another message to us.

iOS may include Mote’s local data in your device backup, including iCloud Backup if you enabled it. Backup and restoration are controlled by Apple and your device settings. This is separate from synchronization by Mote. See Apple’s backup guidance.

2. Purchases and RevenueCat

Apple processes Mote Plus payments. We do not receive your payment card number. To show offers, validate purchases, restore eligible purchases, and decide whether Plus is active, Mote uses the RevenueCat SDK. With no Mote account, RevenueCat generates an anonymous app user ID. RevenueCat receives purchase and subscription information, including product and transaction details, and may process technical information needed to provide its service, such as device, app, and network information. RevenueCat also provides purchase-related analytics to us. We use this information to operate paid features and understand purchase activity, not for advertising.

Read RevenueCat’s privacy policy and Apple’s privacy policy for their own processing. We do not use an advertising SDK or use your notes for ad targeting.

3. Optional iOS features

If you choose Share, iOS sends the selected note to a destination you choose. Mote does not control the recipient’s privacy practices. Local notifications can alert you about a scheduled note but do not include its text. If you start or schedule a Live Activity, iOS may show note text on the Lock Screen, Dynamic Island, or other system surfaces, including when Mote is closed. You can stop Live Activities or manage their permission in iOS Settings.

Private Mode uses Face ID or a device passcode through iOS authentication. Mote does not receive biometric data or your passcode. Private Mode hides the app UI while locked and ends active Live Activities when enabled, but it does not separately encrypt the note database. On iOS 26 and later, a previously scheduled Live Activity might remain scheduled until Mote next runs and can cancel it after a Plus entitlement change; do not treat Private Mode as a guarantee that every system surface is immediately cleared while the app is suspended.

4. Feedback and contact

“Send Feedback” opens the iOS Mail composer addressed to johanintheuk@gmail.com. Mote does not attach your notes or diagnostics automatically. If you send an email, we receive the address, message, and any content you choose to include. Your mail provider and Google, which hosts our mailbox, also process the message under their policies. We use correspondence to answer you, handle requests, and keep records when reasonably needed for support or legal obligations.

5. These GitHub Pages

These static legal pages are hosted by GitHub Pages. They contain no Mote analytics scripts or third-party media. GitHub may process technical visit data, including IP addresses, for hosting and security. See GitHub’s privacy statement. Opening a page from the app requires an internet connection.

6. Retention, deletion, and your choices

Your notes remain in local app storage until you delete them in Mote or remove the app, subject to device backups you manage through Apple. Moving a note to History is not deletion. If you delete the app, the local app data is generally removed from that device, but copies may remain in an existing device backup or in content you shared elsewhere.

Purchase records and the anonymous RevenueCat ID may remain with Apple and RevenueCat as needed for entitlement checks, accounting, fraud prevention, and legal obligations. Support emails are kept as long as reasonably needed to handle the request or meet legal obligations, then deleted. You can email us to request access to, correction of, or deletion of information we hold about you, subject to applicable law and records we must retain. Because notes are not stored on our server, we cannot retrieve or delete notes on your device or in your Apple backup for you. You can manage subscriptions in your Apple Account and device backups in iOS Settings.

7. Legal basis, location, and security

Where data protection law requires a legal basis, we process purchase information to provide Plus and fulfill our agreement with you; support correspondence to respond to your request; and limited technical data for service reliability, security, and our legitimate interests, subject to your rights. Some processing may occur in countries outside yours because Apple, RevenueCat, GitHub, and Google operate internationally. Their privacy policies describe their safeguards and rights processes.

We use the security features of iOS and service providers, but no system is perfectly secure. Your device security, backups, and choices about sharing or Live Activities affect who can see note content. Mote is not designed as a secure vault for highly sensitive information.

8. Children, changes, and questions

Mote does not ask users to create an account or provide contact details to use the app. If a child has sent us personal information through feedback, a parent or guardian may contact us to request its removal. We may update this policy when our practices or the app change. The current version and its date will remain at this URL; we will give additional notice when required by law.

For privacy questions or requests, contact johanintheuk@gmail.com. Please do not send note text unless you want us to read it as part of your request.
